5 Things to Do in Devil’s Den for the Perfect Trip

Last Updated on February 6, 2024

Devil’s Den features a breathtaking underground spring that has been turned into a snorkeling and scuba diving site. The spring is an inverted mushroom shape and has a depth of 54 feet.

On cold mornings, steam rises from the underground spring, thus giving it the name “Devil’s Den”.

With crystal clear water, year-round 72-degree water temperatures,  ancient rock formations with stalactites, fossil beds dating back 33 million years, and much more, you’re guaranteed to leave with memories that will last a lifetime.

Things to Do in Devil’s Den Spring

The Spring is a privately owned scuba diving training center that allows snorkeling. Because it’s private, they have strict insurance regulations. It’s not a place you can just observe others, you have to participate.

Since Devil’s Den is not connected to a river or ocean, you may think the spring wouldn’t be filled with much wildlife. However, this area is teeming with fish, other aquatic wildlife, and even a small turtle named Nelson.

Fossils have been found at the site dating back 2 million years, many of which are displayed at the University of Florida’s Natural History Museum. However, many fossils are still commonly found, so be on the lookout.

If you do find a fossil, make sure to leave it at the site.

    4. Stop by Cedar Lakes Woods & Gardens Next Door

While the spring itself is only a dive spot if you’re looking for more to do, you can always stop by their next-door neighbor: the beautiful Japanese botanical garden, Cedar Lakes Woods & Gardens.
