Mess Sergeant Bill Gerstman created Everglades Seasoning in 1944 after Soldiers of the 714th Rescue Mission were dumping their bland food rations into the sea.

Gerstman was taught that anything could taste good if it was seasoned properly.

Not only did the seasoning satisfy the soldier’s appetites, but it had them coming back for more. After the military, Gerstman returned home to LaBelle, Florida where he worked as a meat cutter/butcher.

Eventually, in 1976, the secret formula was perfected, and Everglades Seasoning was born.

In 1985 he sold the recipe to Gene and Martha Cross, owners of the LaBelle Trading Post, who began distributing the seasoning in Southwest Florida.

W.D. “Bo” Randall created Randall Made Knives in 1937 after he saw a man using a fantastic hand-made knife. He then challenged himself to make a knife just as good as the one he saw.

Before long he began selling his hand-made knives at his father-in-law’s clothing store in Orlando.

Demand increased dramatically and Bo began to receive envelopes addressed to “Knife Man, Orlando, Florida”.
