Are you looking for things to do in Live Oak, Florida? Well, you’ve come to the right place.
Live Oak is a quaint city located at the midway point between Tallahassee and Jacksonville. With a population of only 7,325, it stays off most visitors radars.
However, this area also has many outdoor activities, making it a desirable and often overlooked destination.
Suwannee River State Park
One of the focal points of Suwannee County is the Suwannee River State Park. It’s located in the heart of Live Oak.
Suwannee River State Park is a treasure trove of natural splendor and historical intrigue nestled along the banks of Florida’s famed Suwannee River.
This enchanting park serves as a gateway to ancient earthworks dating back to the Civil War, offering a mosaic of wooded trails offering scenic vistas and a few secretive sinkholes.
For those drawn to the water, the merging of the Suwannee with the Withlacoochee River provides a great backdrop for canoeing and fishing. However, keep your eyes open for alligators!
It’s a sanctuary where the whispers of Old Florida are as palpable as the gentle river breeze.

Where to Eat in Live Oak
The 406 Restaurant
The 406 has had a cult following in the area due to its quality food and stellar service.
When it closed due to the pandemic, new owners stepped in and bought it. This happened to be their favorite local restaurant so the whole experience was kismet.
Nestled within the historic walls of the Thomas Dowling House, The 406 masterfully marries the old with the new.
Adorned with majestic columns and inviting wrap-around porches, this venerable abode stands as one of the oldest dwellings in the region, with its foundations laid back in 1896.
The 406 offers a variety of dining options from their appetizers to their entrees. The Crab Bisque is amazing. In addition to steak and seafood, they offer a couple vegetarian and Vegan options.
We recommend the Chicken Picatta based on an informal survey we took with some friends. Even their cheeseburger gets rave reviews.
They offer cocktails and outdoor seating as well.
Don’t miss out on any of their great menu items … and save room for dessert.
