    Take an Airboat Ride in West Palm Beach (WPB)

    Of all excursions one can take, an airboat ride tops the list of unique experiences in Florida.

    Don’t feel intimidated. It’s actually very serene and calming to travel via an airboat. Just be sure to wear headphones.

    You may not realize that you have access to the Everglades, the largest subtropical wetland ecosystem in North America and the largest mangrove ecosystem in the Western Hemisphere, via an airboat ride from West Palm Beach.

    Located just 45 minutes from downtown West Palm Beach, lies the northeastern boundaries of the Everglades known as the West Palm Beach Preserve.

    You can observe an abundance of wildlife during your adventure.

    Go Shopping at Mediterranean-themed Rosemary Square

    Although it doesn’t fall under our typical “authentic” category, you can enjoy the feel of Europe with a visit to Rosemary Square.

    It’s a great mix of charming shops, sidewalk cafés, dining, live entertainment, quaint architecture, and ornamental fountains.

    The shopping center turns into an entertainment district at night with movies, comedy, local band performances and offers an occasional yoga class in the open-air plaza.

    Experience a Drive-Thru Safari Park at Lion Country Safari

    Lion Country Safari is a drive-through safari park and walk-through amusement park located on over 600 acres in Loxahatchee (near WPB) in Palm Beach County.

    It opened in 1967 as the first “cageless” zoo in the United States.

    Lion Country Safari is now home to hundreds of wild animals. You’ll get to see zebras, chimpanzees, rhinos, giraffes, and, of course, lions.

    The 4-mile drive-thru tour is approximately 90 minutes long and is split into seven sections:

    • Las Pampas
    • Ruaha National Park
    • Kalahari Busheveldt
    • Gir Forest
    • Gorongosa Reserve
    • Serengeti Plains
    • Hwange National Park

    Admission may be purchased online or at the ticket booths upon arrival. Online tickets are not date specific and will be honored for 6 months after the date of purchase.

    The price of regular admission (ages 10 and older): $49 plus tax; Children (ages 3-9): $37 plus tax; 2 and under are free.

    They also offer some really cool Premium Experiences, but you have to plan in advance for any of them (they do not except same day reservations).

    Water Park/Splash Zone

    The water park is included with admission and is very popular with children (and their parents), especially during the summer months.

    Walk or Bike the 5.5-mile Palm Beach Lake Trail

    Walk or take a two-wheeled tour that runs parallel to the Intracoastal Waterway with sweeping views of the West Palm Beach skyline to the west and multiple Palm Beach estates to the east.

    Along the way, check out the natural wonders, including the Big Kopak Tree, as well as the Flagler Museum.

    If you plan to walk, run or bike the full length of the trail (NOTE: there are limited public restrooms available), consider parking at the southern end on South Lake Drive and Peruvian Avenue, where you can find paid public parking.

    Visit Mounts Botanical Garden (MBG)

    If you’re looking for a tropical oasis in the middle of Palm Beach County, Mounts Botanical Garden is the place to go.

    This garden is a 14-acre living plant museum with 25 unique garden areas, including a children’s garden where kids can learn about nature, and a wetlands area with walking trails.
