Valerie Theatre – A Journey Back to the ’20s

Last Updated on March 6, 2023

If you want to travel back in time, put Valerie Theatre in Inverness, Florida on your things to do in Florida list. The Valerie Theatre is a historic landmark for lovers of film and history alike!

Valerie Theatre was built in the 1920s by Pearl G. Maddox, and featured popular silent films. When the theatre first opened, the price of admission was 10 cents for children and 25 cents for adults.

Since its original opening in the 20s, Valerie Theatre continues to feature a wide array of films. It has only been closed for minimal periods due to a fire in 1939.

More recently, the City of Inverness officially purchased the theatre as a renovation project.

New equipment was installed and the entire facility received a much-needed update, featuring new seats, balconies, and high-top tables.

Since its grand reopening in 2015, the updated Valerie Theatre has been dubbed the Valerie Theatre Cultural Center.

Now located in Historic Courthouse Square, Valerie Theatre Cultural Center is home to many events, including concerts, educational exhibits, plays, and various movies.

Valerie Theatre has been the topic of conversation for many years. In the ’20s, many towns blocked Sunday shows, however, the City Council of Inverness allowed Sunday movies. This decision faced serious backlash, but ultimately boosted tourism and became a topic of discussion for many years.

Several years later, the city bustled with news of the devastating fire that thrashed through the theatre. Years following, the Valerie is still a popular conversation topic among Inverness natives and tourists alike.

If you’re looking to attend an event at this historic landmark, be sure to check out the City of Inverness website, as well as their Facebook page. They frequently post about upcoming events and event calendars.

Tickets to said events may be purchased through the aforementioned website or an hour before the showing at the theatre’s box office.

In addition to attending regular showings, Valerie Theatre offers its guests the opportunity to book the venue for personal events. If you’re interested in hosting your own event, email [email protected] for more information.
